Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s opening remarks at talks with OSCE Secretary General Thomas Greminger, Moscow, October 31, 2019
Mr Secretary General, my dear Thomas,
We are delighted that you have come to Russia again. We reaffirm our support for your efforts to enhance the efficiency of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE). We see that your team is really focused on formulating a unifying agenda of the organisation and on restoring trust between the member states which has been seriously undermined.
Russia has always called for using the OSCE as a platform for dialogue aimed at finding a collective response to common challenges. We maintain close contacts with OSCE representatives, institutes and bodies. Last June, Coordinator of OSCE Economic and Environmental Activities Vuk Zugic attended the St Petersburg International Economic Forum. In July, High Commissioner on National Minorities Lamberto Zannier visited Russia. We expect OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media Harlem Desir to visit Russia next week for a conference on the media, which we are organising together with the OSCE.
We always support all proposals concerning expanding and enhancing the effectiveness of the OSCE fight against new challenges and threats and efforts to settle conflicts in our common space. I think we will be able to discuss these topics in detail today.
Once again, welcome to Moscow.
